Building a Dog House Suited For Winter

by Daniel Hansen

Some dogs just don't really like to stay inside the house and prefer to stay outside even in cold seasons. They prefer staying at their comfort zone like their house. This can be a bit worrying, for there are some dogs that can't stand freezing weather, this can give your dog bad cold.

The solution for this dilemma is quite simple; all you have to do is build a house for your dog that can help your pet endure bad weather conditions. By providing your dog a warm house you will stop worrying about your dog catching cold or getting sick.

Here are some basic tips that can help you convert your ordinary dog house into a house that can keep your dog warm even in winter seasons.

First thing you should consider is the placement of the house. Where you place their house can make a huge difference on how warm or cold the house would be. Place the house of your dog near to the wall of your house. Coldest wind usually blows from the north; the basic solution for this is to face the house's door to the south. In this way your dog won't be able to feel the cold wind entirely, plus south wind is usually warmer.

Use door flaps. Door flaps can be a rubber mat or a very heavy gauge plastic. This can keep the house warm by not allowing strong winds to enter the house and keeps out any elements from extreme weather conditions. Place this mat at the top of the doorway and let it flow as close to the ground as possible, but it should not hit the ground.

Seal your dog house. It is very important that the house it tightly sealed, there should be no leaks at the roof and walls of the house for cold winds can pass through these leaks. You can use get basic sealants from your local hardware stores.
